The idea of a custom monitor stand was born right after buying a TFT monitor. The problem is that I used to have my center speaker on top of the CRT-monitor but obviously it can't sit on top of a slim TFT monitor. A speaker stand would solve the problem and the poor Viewsonic could have it's own leg but no, I'm a damn modder and I do it the hard way ;)  The plan was simple, two 20 mm square aluminum tubes and well.. nothing else. I have a evaluate rubbish table so it doesn't matter even I drill holes to this so I'm just gonna use some steel corners to fix the aluminum tubes firmly to the table. For the sake of outlooks I'm also gonna use some 1 mm sheet aluminum to cover the base part and ugly mountings. The plate on the front side may also house some custom electronics in the future ;) As for the cables I've planned to drill a large (50 mm?) hole to the table.  Cutting the square tube. The clamp and the corner bit were useful when trying to make a straight cut.  Heavy duty corner bits in place. From this angle it's easy to say why I want to hide them :)  Front.. This is pretty much what will be visible from the stand when the monitor is mounted. Mounting is done with standard 100x100 M3 VESA. The tubes are 80 mm from each other so the holes are dead center on them. The screws on the right side will be changed to match the ones on the left. I made this stand on saturday when no shop was open and I only had two of those nice looking bolts. Those two on the top are M4 hex-screws that I may have to change to pop-rivets as they may otherwise hit the monitor when it's in place. Remove this ad by registering or by logging in.
