This is my first boombox project, actually this is my first project with any electronic device.

(Project is still in progress)

This project started when I found a bit worn Hitachi cassette radio. After 20 minutes of random 80's hits cassette deck/player got a bit lazy and I deiced to take that old radio to 21st century.

Fortunately drakmin helped me to select a high-quality parts for this build, otherwise it would be pretty awful.

Starting point

I ordered 2 x Visaton BG 17 speakers, 2 x 9.6V 2600mAh NiMH batteries and Sure Electronics 2 x 50W amplifier, then I got a bit wild and ordered Sure Electronics 24 x 16 3mm LED matrix + Arduino microcontroller.
I'm planning to fit the LED matrix into the cassette player and to control it with the Arduino, so I could have an audio spectrum display. (ATM still waiting for Arduino microcontroller)

Some pic's trough the project

At the moment I'm wondering that should I paint the boombox or leave it be, I kinda like that worn out look.
