Digital microscope made of Logitech C270 webcam and cheap 50mm CCTV lens from dx.com. Image quality is enough for SMD soldering, working distance is about 30-40cm and latency & motion blur in webcam viewing program is acceptable. I may add also 1/4" threads for camera holder.
Flux and solder wick helps a lot. I prefer flux pen and 0,6mm or thinner leaded solder. If you can still affect to PCB layout, I'd extend the pads or traces a bit so it's easier to drag the extra solder from pins to traces.
Typical 0603s feels quite monstrous after learning to hand solder 0201 SMD components :) I just need proper stand for the camera itself. Actually ordered one already from DX. Lets see if it's strudy enough.
